Dai Holdall

The role of the dai or the traditional birth attendent at a village, is to assist the mother as she delivers her baby. At the NGO, Seva Mandir, the dai is trained in safe delievery techniques. In addition she is given an overnight bag and the Dai Holdall. As the Dai prepares to leave for her clients house, she carries with her tools that she needs for the delivery and her own personal belongings such as a sari, a towel and others.

The Dai holdall opens out. It has pockets of different sizes to contain all the tools required during delivery. The holdall can be hung up on a nail or laid down on the table or floor to retrive the "tools" as required.

In these pockets: plastic gloves, calcium tablets, folic acid/ iron tablets, mask to cover mouth, blade, scissors, soap, nail cutter, cotton, thread and spring balance.
